Janet Lee McClary, 61, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 10, 2010. After moving to Richmond 23 years ago, Mrs. McClary and her husband founded Good Samaritan Ministries, Commonwealth Christian Academy, and Community-Bainbridge Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her departure. She received her bachelor's degree from James Madison University and her master's degree from the University of Virginia. She served her country in the U.S. Army from 1976 to 1984. "She was not a lady who was a Christian, she was a Christian Lady." She was a faithful wife of 25 years to her husband, Michael D. McClary. She is also survived by her son, Jason B. Downs; brother, Lynn Merritt of Portsmouth; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held for Mrs. McClary at Grove Avenue Baptist Church, followed by an interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The Lady At The Front Desk

Who really knows The Lady at the front desk
Who answered the phones and graded all the tests
Who helped me on my road to success
By teaching me nothing but the best

At CCA she tutored English for so long
She tapped us on the head
when we got the simple things wrong
But helped us correct it before she sent us along

In all our hearts she’ll always be
This I’m sure you’ll all agree
An example of what a Christian lady should be
Who surrendered her all to Jesus Christ as we all can see

I knew that Lady at the front desk
She taught me nothing but her best

The sentiments of her heart rings,
“Now go and do great things!”
